Students face more challenges today than ever before, making it difficult for students to concentrate on tests, take notes, and generally holds pupils back from performing at their true academic potential.
It’s also becoming more challenging for any student to get into the college of their choice. Acceptance rates across the nation are declining for elite educational institutions. The university application process is becoming more and more selective, leading students to search for any competitive edge that can help them attend the best schools.
PeakBrain now offers that edge through advanced brain training. This innovative approach helps the brain to improve its own activation patterns so that students can achieve academic success. PeakBrain uses a powerful combination of neurofeedback, biofeedback, metabolic training for the brain, and mindfulness technologies along with personalized coaching to help the brain achieve effective processing and function better in academic settings.
There is a robust body of research showing that neurofeedback can help students overcome their challenges with ADHD, anxiety and sleep. As these conditions are frequently treated with medication that can cause a host of side-effects, students may feel like the unintended consequences of their prescriptions are holding them back just as much as the disorders themselves. For these students, neurofeedback is a drug-free, affordable way of achieving lasting changes for academic excellence.
Children with ADHD lack focus and are hyperactive, which means that sitting quietly and paying attention in a classroom are difficult for the child who cannot control those impulses.
In a randomized controlled trial, neurofeedback was shown to result in “significant academic performance improvements” and significant reduction “in ADHD functional impairment by parents; and in primary ADHD symptoms by parents and teachers” (Meisel et. al, 2014).
Anxiety in children is normal, but excessive anxiety can cause them to become withdrawn, fearful, shy and nervous.
Researchers “observed changes in connectivity several days after the completion of [neurofeedback (NF)] training, demonstrating that such training can lead to lasting modifications of brain functional architecture. Training also increased subjects’ control over contamination anxiety several days after the completion of NF training” (Scheinost et. al, 2013).
Whether they are in elementary school or post-graduate education, research shows that optimizing the brain leads to improved performance.
“This [experiment] suggests that normal healthy individuals can learn to increase a specific component of their EEG activity, and that such enhanced activity may facilitate semantic processing in a working memory task and to a lesser extent focused attention” (Vernon et. al, 2003).
Getting enough sleep is essential to a healthy life and facing the stresses of childhood. Poor-quality sleep, however, limit the child from learning, listening and problem solve among other things.
A study of the effectiveness of neurofeedback for treating insomnia “showed excessive sleepiness and hyperarousal, which improved post-treatment.” The participants “improved in sleep and daytime functioning” and were “normal sleepers” after completing the sessions (Hammer et. al, 2011).
